Big Authenticity Mistake (and How to Avoid it!)
Today I wanted to talk about a big mistake that I see a lot of people making. This mistake can be done by any of us, but we can avoid it.
One of the biggest mistakes that I see people making is that they’re trying to sound like someone else.
They are copying what someone else is doing and writing the types of posts that others are writing. While success does leave clues, you can’t always fit in someone else’s shoes! Find what is authentic to YOU. That really comes down to trusting your own gut.
I think a lot of people say this person is successful because they did “x”, “y”, and “z” and that worked for them. Yes, it did work for THAT person because it was authentic to who THEY were. You need to be authentic to who YOU are and not feel like you can’t show up as who you are because your audience isn’t going to respond to it, or that you need to censor yourself or come off a certain way, or sound like someone else.
The formula for you to be successful is for you to sound like YOU. Be authentic with who you are. I think so many of us stress about doing that because we feel like “I don’t know what to say” and that’s why we end up making this mistake. We don’t have a plan, or strategy around what to say. Subconsciously, we end up thinking “well that I guess I’m just going to sound like her because that’s the only thing I can think of to do because I haven’t taken the time to come up with my own content strategy around what I want to say on Instagram”.
Don’t make that mistake! Go figure out what you want to say to your audience on Instagram. Based on the Story Brand Frame Work, you need to figure out who your client is, what they’re struggling with and all that. Figure that out for yourself and talk about that in your messaging.
I hope that makes sense for you and was helpful. This is just a little reminder that the biggest mistake that you can make is not sounding like yourself being and inauthentic and wondering why things don’t work.
So you need to have a plan and figure out what you need to say, and what resonates and feels natural to you. That is going to be what you share.
Once you do that, you will feel confident about how you’re showing up and what you are saying in the online space.
